Brandon Ryan

Brandon was born in San Francisco and eventually moved to Los Angeles to study the arts.  He spent 10 years working as an actor and writer in Los Angeles while simultaneously developing his paintings and drawings.  Coming from his father who was a sculptural artist, he was influenced by the metal and steel fabrication shops he spent time in as a boy.

Many of his artistic influences were in the abstract impressionist era of painters.

His early work was done primarily on canvas and explored the “automatic” effect of clearing all ideas or directions of what the painting could be and letting the moment and piece find itself.

In the new series, “Oil Sticks on Paper 1-19”the “automatic” discipline is still used as a starting point for sculptural work.  Each work is coupled in a grouping of pieces representing one large idea.
