Chris Hanson Mechanism Series

Mechanism:

I challenged myself to strip away everything I could from my artistic process apart from the basic abstraction and in the moment decisions. What would be the result of using only raw canvas and ink? What could I express through basic color, and a pattern of points, angles, and lines? I find, a minimal representation can sometimes help me to use my mind to explore.

The result was the Mechanism Series.

The Mechanism Series in most ways strongly contrasts the work from the Awakening or String Theory Series. Each piece is made by one continuous line per color. There is no beginning or end. If given the chance they will start to reach out toward you as the angles push against each other. When looking at these pieces I ask myself- What is this shape? What could it represent? What is its size and scale?  Is it part of a system?

What does it reveal to you?
